live you

being someone else

will get you nowhere

on the road to yourself

be awkward

fall upon your steps

learn from the cuts and scars

bruised egos travel past

anchored souls are eternal

walk with them

live you

She Will Fly

a song

it rests inside her heart

of this I am sure

anxious are the steps

in each unlit morn

a soul so deep

and painfully pure

her hand

I look to take

but so often I cannot reach

innocence dimmed in life’s realities

pushing forward

in hope that tomorrow’s sunset

continues to teach

walking paths laid at her feet

feeling half full

has her seeking a choice

the journey

sows the seeds

a song will be sung

as she finds her voice

the War Inside

even in sunbeams

I’m often standing in the cold

shouldering this war inside my head

is getting pretty old

asking if I am ready for this truth

the face in the mirror looks deep inside

today can carry yesterday’s memories

freedom is smothered if I choose to hide

this long story keeps getting longer

holding moments even when I will not see the ending

breathe and write the script

tomorrow’s chapter is still pending

Feeling All Your Feelings

fear

pain

anger

creating a loneliness inside

our emotions belong to us

yet no one is excluded from these burdens

in this we are not alone

without a release we lay trapped

feel them all

express them

allow for tears

there may be many

salt stained cheeks can also cleanse the soul

its okay to scream

laughter and warmth will also arrive

keep going

and learning will follow

be courageous

you are strong

we all get broken

inside and out our scars tell the story

healing is a journey

in its end is always a new beginning

the Road

new doors of life

unknown territory

no map no guide

only my heart and hope

laughter and tears are constant companions

there is no choice

this intersection appears to have been destined

you have joined me

as you approach your own doorways

parallel and intertwined

we can travel together

Spring’s Moment

winds warmer than yesterday

raising the smell of the season

spring’s beat is humming in the air

bouncing my soul in just the right way

moving along more gracefully

even with no place to go

loneliness seems more distant today

bright rays work effortlessly

tearing away walls

taking noticing the light shining around and thru

hold it now

this moment

for it may be more obscure in tomorrow’s dawn

the Love

the love you want

the love you need

the love you deserve

I may not be able

deep is this love

unique in every way

as it sits in the stars

I wish I could be

seeking what you think you saw

weighs upon these hearts

leaving moments unprotected

I am only me

we have planted roots

in rows beside pain and laughter

rain, sun and space we must trust

your hand in mine

She is Hope

patiently trusting in a return

ears perk catching a familiar sound

eyes unwavering until you come into sight

a shadowed shape is recognized

her body moves full with excitement awaiting your touch

home, she knows we each are one together

shaping herself around you

finding the crook of your arm and angle of the best fit

shedding life’s weight

slowing the pace

bringing peace

in this shared presence

she feels your soul

she understands the connection

she loves

she trusts her instincts

I believe her

she is hope

Broken Verse

Note: These verses were pulled from a broader writing (a piece of an incomplete story) of mine. The verses appear in more of the format I usually write in. I am still working on my other styles…

forever waiting on the ledge between sadness and summer

been dreaming of this horizon that will never come

it’s easy to lose your grace in the spotlight of the city

always sleep it off before you say goodbye

with your head up you can see it’s broken

maybe we shouldn’t have danced after the expiration date

riding too hard into the silver light can steal the gaze

and because of the weather, trust blows against the wind

the long ride left you silent on the questions at hand

wasted breath became harnessed to answers buried inside

the meaning change after escaping open lips

the long and short of whatever you feel awaits the stranger

others can’t hear the throbbing in your head

architects of love cannot see joy melting into struggle

kindling to ash is the base of the heart that sinks

emptiness will arise from no forgiveness

Trust From Above

stars above glimmer and shine

wielding silver, blue and gold

often not promises

but wishes they hold

challenges may create wandering

be refreshed in the dawn anew

while directions may change

to yourself always be true

giving your all

is never a fail

breathe deep

remember to exhale

walk with confidence

knowing your heart is real

ten feet tall

is how you should feel

forgive yourself

for choices passed and choices made

mistakes are a must

we all will learn and pain will fade
